  • What Issues Does EMDR Treat?

EMDR is widely known for treating PTSD resulting from traumatic experiences. HOWEVER, this is just one of EMDR’s applications. EMDR can also be used to treat anxiety, depression and other distressing life experiences.

  • Why is it believed that EMDR can help?

The premise behind EMDR is that a person’s current unpleasant symptoms are occurring because the brain did not effectively process past experiences. EMDR is a technique that is believed to help you target these experiences so that the brain can reprocess it and alleviate the current symptoms.

  • What ACTUALLY happens in an EMDR Session?

In an EMDR session a client focuses on a distressing memory while experiencing what we call bilateral stimulation. This bilateral stimulation means that while you are thinking of the distressing memory, you will either be moving your eyes left to right, listening to sound alternate between your left and right ear or hold a tool that will alternate a buzzing sensation in your left and right hand.
